Did You Know?: Mae Jemison has always aimed for the stars as a doctor, engineer, and NASA astronaut. Jemison was the first African American woman to travel into space in 1992. She has also written several books and appeared on numerous television shows, including a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode. Jemison has been inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and the International Space Hall of Fame, among other honors. She has inspired other people to become astronauts, as she has broken the race and gender barriers.
