Did You Know?: Jack Daniel's is a popular brand of American whiskey made at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The mash is composed of 80 % corn, 12 % rye, and 8 % malted barley. The distillate is then filtered through sugar maple charcoal and aged in charred oak barrels. Jasper Newton Daniel established and built the distillery in 1866. Dan Call, a preacher, took in Jasper, also known as Jack. He resided with the Call family and later learnt the trade of distilling from Nathan "Nearest" Green, an enslaved man.
