Did You Know?: Frances Watkins Harper was an abolitionist leader, poet, and speaker. Her writings and speeches were immensely valuable to slaves and fellow abolitionists during her lifetime. She was a supportive activist for civil rights and women's suffrage, leading to the Pennsylvania and Maine Anti-Slavery Societies to hire her as a traveling speaker. Harper later became a co-founder and vice-president of the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs (@nacwc1896), as well as the director of the American Association of Colored Youth.
